13th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 1997 (Glasgow, Scotland)

It was duly noted that for the second time Hong Kong teams were absent. In 1975, for the 3rd event held in Australia, they were not present. The women's team returned home in 1982 because of the racket controversy when their #1 player had her racket rejected because it did not meet ITTF Rule approved for Jannuary 1, 1982.

The highlights of the 13th event emanated for the women from Singapore who won the team event, lead by Jing Junhong, Tan Paey Fern and Koh Li Ping. Jing Junhong also won Singles gold, as well as Doubles with Li Jiawei, who in turn with partner Lai Chin Pang, won the Mixed Doubles; Li Jiawei tied for bronze medal of Women's Singles with Andrea Holt (ENG).

Other teams in women's team event were silver to England; bronze 3rd Australia, 4th Malaysia.

England won the Men's Team gold and for Men's Singles were Matthew Syed defeating Alan Cooke in finals. Men's Team from India won silver; Canada 3rd bronze and Australia 4th. India also won gold for Men's Doubles by Chetan Baboor and Subramanian Raman. Baboor won bronze 3rd in Men's Singles, with Liu Jun Hui (MAS) 4th.

14th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2000 (Singapore)

The Championships received entries from 15 countries and was one of the strongest Commonwealth Championships of all times. As in Glasgow, Singapore was the most successful nation in terms of numbers of medals won with their domination of the strong women's events. Despite the strongest entry for several years, England's retained the Men's Team and Men's singles Championships, with an improved Singapore taking second place.

The Championships were widely covered on the Singapore Sports City TV channel and received very extensive press and media coverage throughout Singapore as well as a wide range of press reports in a number of the participating countries. The Singapore Table Tennis Association were the first to operate a website promoting the Championships beforehand and provided a very good results service throughout.
